The community of Emmett is located in western Idaho near the border of Oregon. It is less than 30 miles from the capitol of Boise and about 430 miles from Portland. Originally named after the son of postmaster Thomas Cahalan, Emmett serves as the county seat and has a land area of approximately 1.8 square miles with a resident population of about 5,500, making a lovely addition to Gem County. The average temperature in Emmett ranges from the mid 70’s in the summer to the high 20’s in the winter. The economy within the neighborhood consists of several industries which provide employment. Some industries providing employment opportunities include educational, health and social services, and retail trade. Residents with children from grades K-12 will find the proper education accommodations through School District #221 which includes two high schools and four primary/middle school facilities. For those who wish to pursue a degree in higher education, Boise State University is located about 34 miles away. Recreational amenities for both residents and visitors alike come in the form of various museums, historical sites and parks, including the Gem County Historical Museum and Eagle Island State Park. The Emmett City Golf Course is also available for golf enthusiasts.
